Fieger To Represent Parents Of Karrington Penny

The man who represented Jack Kevorkian in several high-profile assisted suicide cases and lost in a landslide in his attempt to oust John Engler as Michigan governor in 1998 is headed to Berrien County. Geoffrey Fieger has been hired by the parents of Karrington Penny to represent them in any lawsuit they file concerning the 18-year-old's death in Benton Harbor on New Year's Day. Penny had been at a party that night where alcohol and marijuana were being consumed, and the report from the Berrien County Coroner indicates he had THC from marijuana in his system when he died and was also three-times the legal limit drunk. The teen's body was found in a yard in the 400 block of East Empire after he left the party, got out of the car he was riding in, and ran to several houses. His death has been ruled accidental and caused by hypothermia and alcohol. No decision has been made on where or when to file a lawsuit.

A candlelight vigil is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 20 at 420 East Empire in Benton Harbor. That is the home where Penny's body was found.
