Frozen Pipes Plague Benton Harbor

Frozen pipes have hit the City of Benton Harbor like an epidemic.

City Manager Darwin Watson says Public Works, along with three-outside contractors, are investigating each frozen-pipes case.

The investigation process is time consuming. It involves digging through snow, concrete and earth to get to a service line. Watson says the process then takes about 2 to 4 hours to thaw-out the line and get water running again. The City recommends customers run their water to avoid frozen pipes. Don't worry about being over charged, February water bills will be based off of January’s numbers.
