Off the job since last July, and without a paycheck since October 7, Roger Lange still wants back on duty as Benton Harbor's public safety director. The "Herald Paladium" reports Lange filed a motion last week in court to be allowed to retrieve personal items from the office, including a forensics machine and a computer. His lawsuit against the city still has no trial date set. Lange sued, claiming emergency manager Tony Saunders suspended him as retaliation for a letter sent to the state alleging Saunders used racially insensitive language while speaking to two white officers. The city contends Lange is off the job only because he has not yet passed both of the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Fire Fighter examinations. He passed the written test in August, and plans to take the physical test in April. Lange has been training for that with fire fighters from Berrien Springs.
