Nesbitt's Oil, Gas Expansion Legislation Heads To Michigan Senate

Legislation has passed the state House with bi-partisan support to allow the expansion of Michigan's oil and gas industry. One bill in the package was sponsored by Representative Aric Nesbitt of Lawton, who believes it will boost the economy, create jobs and cut down on the release of carbon dioxide from gas and oil production.

Nesbitt's House Bill 4885 passed by an 85-25 vote and now heads to the state Senate. Other bills in the package update Michigan laws on pipelines to allow the transportation of carbon dioxide. Nesbitt noted the bills do not include anything regarding hydraulic fracturing drillling, or fracking.
