BHAS Submits DEP Extension



An extension to the Deficit Elimination Plan is being submitted to the state by the Benton Harbor school board.

Superintendent Dr. Leonard Seawood says 15 years are being added to the plan which only has two-and-a-half remaining. The new plan extends the DEP through June of 2028. He says the state understands the difficulty in trying to eliminate a $15.5-million deficit. That's why their allowing for submission of a new plan from the district. The board unanimously approved it Wednesday night. Trustees seemed optimistic it will get 'the thumbs up,' but know nothing will change -- hard work to eliminate the deficit needs to continue.
