Log Cabin Republicans Want Unifier To Replace Terri Lynn Land

A new Republican National Committeewoman will be selected this weekend by the Michigan Republican State Central Committee to replace Terri Lynn Land. Given the controversy over homophobic and anti-Muslim comments by the state's other national committeeman Dave Agema, the Log Cabin Republicans have their thoughts on the type of person to replace Land. Brian Savage of Baroda is the organization's chairman.

Land stepped down from the post in the last few weeks to concentrate on her run for the U.S. Senate. Savage notes they have not decided yet on who to endorse for her post.

One of the names being tossed around is Ronna Romney, who served as a Republican National Committeewoman from Michigan from 1984 to 1992 and is the former sister-in-law of 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney. She is divorced from Mitt's brother Scott Romney, who ran for Attorney General in Michigan in 1998. He lost in the GOP primary to John Smietanka.

The Log Cabin Republicans formed in 1977 to support Ronald Reagan's opposition to a ballot measure in California which sought to ban openly gay people from being public school teachers. The group has continued as a gay rights political outfit ever since.
