Developers Proposing Berrien County's First CVS Pharmacy In St. Joseph

A CVS Caremark Pharmacy could soon be coming to the area. Developers have submitted paperwork to the city of St. Joseph seeking to build the business near two other pharmacies, the Walgreen's on Hilltop and Van's on Napier.

That's Eric Harvey, who gave a brief presentation to the St. Joseph City Commission Monday night to kick off their efforts. The proposal will be in front of the city's Planning Commission on March 6th. Harvey and other business partners are planning to break ground July 1 and have the business open November 1 if it's approved. The Michigan Department of Transportation also has to sign off on the idea in order to extend Napier about 50 to 100 feet west and change the traffic light and pattern at the intersection.

Harvey was asked why St. Joseph was picked for a new CVS.

Developers are unsure exactly how many jobs will be created. At least one city commissioner tells WSJM News that they are in support of the idea and doesn't think it will harm the nearby Van's pharmacy. Currently, the closest CVS location to St. Joseph is in South Bend, Indiana.
