The Pokagon Band Of Potawatomi Indians has a new Tribal Council Chairman. John P. Warren has been elected to succeed Matt Wesaw, who stepped down last year to take the chairmanship of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. Warren was sworn in on Saturday and is also now the Chairman and CEO of the Pokagon Gaming Authority Board, which oversees all three Four Winds casino properties in New Buffalo, Hartford and Dowagiac. He was born and raised in South Bend and has served the Pokagon Band in several different roles most of his adult life. Warren worked with Notre Dame's Law School to creat the first draft application to the federal government which led to the reaffirmation of the Band's sovereignty in 1994.
