Prosecutor's Office Rules Karrington Penny's Death Accidental

The Berrien County Prosecutors Office has ruled the New Year's Day death of a Benton Harbor teen accidental. 18-year old Karrington Penny was found in the front yard of a house on East Empire Avenue in Benton Harbor. He was dropped off after a party a block and a half away from that house. Using foot prints left in the snow, investigators followed a path through several homes where Penny had traveled. There were six spots where it appeared he had fell, got up and resumed his trek. There was only one set of tracks leading to his body. Shari Mucia hosted the party Penny had attended, where alcohol and marijuana was being consumed. Evidence suggests Mucia allowed this to happen. She is charged with a misdemeanor because of it. The temperature that night was about 15 degrees. The medical examiner says Penny's death was caused by hypothermia coupled with substance abuse, therefore accidental.
