Indiana 911 Recording Released In Ionia Prison Escape

The search for a prison escapee from Ionia has Amish country on edge in Indiana. The LaGrange County Sheriff's Department is warning people in Shipshewana to not open their doors for anyone other than police as they try to find convicted killer Michael Elliot, who espaped a Michigan prison Sunday night. Police have released the 9-1-1 call from woman Elliot carjacked as she hid in a gas station bathroom in Middlebury.

Prior to Elliot knocking on the door, the woman was able to give enough information to the Indiana State Police dispatcher to pinpoint her location in Middlebury after he forced his way into her vehicle as she was going to work in Ionia.

By the time police arrived, Elliot was gone. The Jeep he had stolen was found in Shipshewana earlier today. Along with searching in Indiana, a nationwide manhunt for Elliot is also underway. He was sentenced to life in prison with no parole for shooting and killing four people and then burning down their house in 1993. He peeled a hole in two fences with his hands to get out of the prison and was wearing a white civilian kitchen uniform to get around security and blend in with the snow.
