A winter storm warning is in effect starting at 1 a.m. Friday for the Van Buren County northward to Muskegon and as far inland as Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. Berrien and Cass counties are under a winter weather advisory, with the same frigid temperatures and winds as the rest of west Michigan. The National Weather Service is warning of dangerous wind chills with the storm of as cold as 30 degrees below zero. For the storm warning area, forecasters are predicting more than six inches of snow along the shoreline of Lake Michigan and up to three inches inland. The warning is in effect through 7 a.m. Saturday. With the dangerously cold wind chills, the NWS cautions frostbite can set in within 30 minutes if your skin is exposed. White-out conditions are expected on the roads from the wind all day Friday and getting worse Friday night.
