The Michigan House Energy and Technology Committee has announced a hearing on utilities' responses to power failures following last month's massive storm across the state. Chair Aric Nesbitt has invited three of Michigan's electricity providers, Consumers Energy, Lansing Board of Water and Light, and DTE Energy, to testify before the committee regarding their response. Nesbitt says the "interest is in making sure utilities are prepared to respond and communicate effectively during similar outages." An ice storm that hit a major portion of the state just before Christmas left more than half a million people without power. Some of those homes were in the dark until after the New Year.
