Come May, Some Parking In Downtown SJ Changes

Parking changes are coming to Downtown St. Joseph. The City Commission adopted a recommendation Monday from the Downtown Development Authority to change all on-street parking to two-hours year-round. Also, all lots on Lake Boulevard between Ship and Elm Streets will be three-hours between May 1 and September 30, then all-day the remainder of the year. Mayor Mike Garey says there's no easy answer to solving the downtown parking dilemma.

Some other changes include the lot adjacent Fifth Third Bank will be split to two-hour and all-day parking. Changes take effect on May 1 to allow ample time for signage. City Manager Richard Lewis says a reassessment will happen sometime this summer to see how the changes are being received.
