Upton: Supporting Poison Control Centers Keeps Our Communities Safe, Saves Lives

Young children make up more than half of the roughly four-million poison exposures that occur in the United States every year, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In an effort to keep them safe, Congressman Fred Upton took to the House floor pushing support of the nation's 57 Poison Control Centers.

Listen:

The Poison Center Network Act would reauthorize funding for the Poison Control Center's 24-hour toll-free hotline and promote public health education. The bipartisan bill also continues the poison center grant program, which is used to operate centers like the Michigan Regional Poison Control Center at the Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. The bill passed the House 388 to 18, and now heads to the Senate.
