With a 5-3 Vote, Benton Harbor Commissioners Turn Down Proposed Loan

Even though the application has already been sent to Lansing, the Benton Harbor City Commission is standing firm on saying "no" to an emergency loan from the state. Voting it down 5-3 Wednesday night. The debt consolidation loan would be for $2.3-million. Commissioner Juanita Henry asks why rush things when we can pay off debts over time?

Mayor James Hightower says the loan is smart business.

The Commission has ten-days to come up with an alternative. If not the state then reviews the loan application.
