Feeding American West Michigan Had Its Biggest Year Ever In 2013

2013 was a record year for Feeding America West Michigan. The food bank distributed more food last year that it ever had in its 33-year history. The organization sent out over 25-million pounds of groceries and household goods, to communities in 40-Michigan counties. CEO Ken Estelle says that's an increase of more than 9% over 2012. More than half the increase came through the Mobile Food Pantry program, which grew over 14%. The good news, the organization was able to distribute all the food to those that needed it. But the bad news...

The majority of the growth was in Berrien, Cass and Van Buren Counties, where there was a rise of 33% in distribution. That equals 2.6-million pounds of food.
