With extremely low temperatures comes extremely low number of blood donations. Officials with Michigan Blood say on a normal day up to 400 donations are made across the state. Because of heavy snowfall and frigid temps only 44 donations were made Monday. On top of that, the St. Joseph branch was closed due to impassable roads. Blood is a perishable resource that can only be stored for a short time. Vice President of Community Relations Jim Childress says the need for donors never ends. If youre not able to make it out to Michigan Blood because of the weather, officials urge you to call and schedule a time to come in later this month. Or visit MichiganBlood.org to schedule an appointment.
