It's time to redraw the maps in Van Buren County. The city of Hartford will get larger next week when a 20-year annexation agreement expires between the city and Hartford Township. The city will officially annex land along County Road 687 from south of the city limits to I-94. The city of Hartford will be 1.4 square miles on January 1st, a 40% increase from the 1 square mile the city currently takes up. The township and city agreed to the annexation in 1995, and residents in the affected area have been paying city taxes the whole time so nothing will change for them. The city extended water and sewer lines into the area as part of the annexation deal.
