The Berrien County Road Commission is going to have a five-member board once again sometime next month. The commission has been operating with just four members since May, despite the fact the Berrien County Commission was required to appoint someone to fill the term of Mike Kastner within 90 days of his departure. A panel of commissioners has selected Ed Kretchman, William Hodge, Christopher Quattrin and Lana Stover-Henderson as the finalists for the open position, and Kretchman has come out on top. A recommendation will be made to the full county board in January, and the person chosen will serve through the end of 2018. The county board is also still considering a takeover by Berrien County of the road commission, with a vote set for March. Commissioners decided this fall to give the new managing director a few months to make changes to end the internal turmoil that has rocked the BCRC for several years. The road commission is still under a federal investigation for alleged mismanagement of highway money.
