Pier Jumping Ban Is Open For Debate

As a part of a Pier Safety Implementation Plan, the Berrien County Board of Commissioners have decided to hold a public hearing on putting a ban to pier jumping. Commissioner Mack Elliott notes nothing has been decided other than the fact a public hearing will be held.

Since 1986 ten people have drowned while visiting the piers which form the mouth of the St. Joseph River in St. Joseph. Six died as a direct result of intentionally jumping from the structures. The hearing is planned for Thursday, January 9 at 10:45 a.m. in the County Administration building.
