I&M Warns Of Copper Thieves

An increase in copper thefts is threatening the safety of not just the thieves but also customers of Indiana Michigan Power. Last month more than 1,000 customers lost power in Muncie, Indiana because thieves cut wires with the goal of stealing copper. I&M's Tracy Warner says anytime a wire is cut, and exposed, it’s unsafe for everyone.

Warner says not all wires are made with copper, some use alluminum.

I&M workers will be wearing a hardhat and driving a marked truck when near substations, Warner says to call authorities if you see someone how may not fall under that description.
