Love Creek Park In Line For Expansion

An expansion of Love Creek Park in Berrien County could happen within the next 12 months. State lawmakers are expected to vote in the coming months on a recommendation by the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to give a grant to the county Parks Commission to buy a little more than 20 acres of land next to the park.

Listen:

That's Berrien County Parks Director Brian Bailey, who anticipates the approval will go through in the spring or summer by the Legislature and Governor Snyder. The $114,500 expansion will allow for more skiing, biking and hiking trails in Berrien Center. No tax dollars are used for Michigan Natural Resource Trust Fund grants, as the money comes from the sale and lease of state-owned mineral rights. Part of the land is already used by the county for access to "outer-loop" ski trails and has been leased from the property owners at no cost since the late 1980s.
