Benton Harbor City Commission Interviews City Manager Finalists

While being interviewed for the city manager position in Benton Harbor, J. Patrick McAtee, a 30-year veteran of Chicago's Metra rail system says city operations and public relations go hand-and-hand.

When asked to list the three biggest challenges Benton Harbor currently faces he ranks unemployment first, securing enterprise second, and improving the city's image third. Benton Harbor's future growth lies in the cultivation of small businesses, according to Public Works Director Darwin Watson, who also interviewed with the City Commission Monday.

Watson has worked for the city for 17-years and has held several positions, including interim city manager and assistant city manager. For progress to be made in the city he says the faith needs to be restored between its residents and government.
