A 40-year-old Niles man is facing several charges including attempted murder in a weekend stabbing. Police found a 29-year-old woman with stab wounds to her chest and both arms Saturday night, and located Edward Doran in the basement. Officers noticed a strong smell of natural gas, and Doran allegedly told them he was trying to blow the house up. The house and neighborhood in the 400 block of South State Street in Niles were evacuated, and the suspect surrendered about 30 minutes later. He has been arraigned on four charges and is holed up in the Berrien Count Jail on $500,000 bond. The victim is in stable condition at an undisclosed area hospital.
