St. Joseph Hires Ann Arbor Firm For Lighthouse Work

Smay Trombley Architecture of Ann Arbor will soon start work on a report concerning the lighthouses on the north pier in St. Joseph. The city commission this week voted to hire the firm, which has worked on more than a dozen similar lighthouse projects.

That's City Commissioner Jeff Richards voicing his support for the move. Smay Trombley is proposing a timeline to start the construction work next July and wrapping up in September. Additionally, the "Lighthouse Forever" group seeking to raise the nearly $2 million needed for the overall project has begun to meet and discuss ways to come up with the money to restore the structures. The lighthouses were built in 1908 and were taken over by the city from the federal government this fall.
