Data Driven Police Work Has Increased Number Of Arrests In Benton Harbor



The numbers of arrests made in the City of Benton Harbor are higher than last year's figures, and a City Commissioner is questioning why. After doing some asking around Marcus Muhammad claims officers may be getting rewarded with gift cards or cash to heighten the number of arrests made in the city. Deputy Director of Police Services Dan McGinnis says there's no truth to that.

McGinnis says the department has an 'officer of the month' program, but the only thing awarded is a reserved parking spot for the following month and a pat on the back.
Arrest numbers have increased in recent months. McGinnis says that's due to the new 'data driven' police work being implemented. He says the data drives where enforcement is needed or not needed.
