Ann Arbor Author Wants To "Save Thanksgiving"



It was once a day reserved for family, food and football, and despite a push from some retailers to turn Thanksgiving into a day of sales and shopping, some Michiganders are determined to return the holiday to its roots. Ann Arbor-based author Annie Zirkel is outraged more and more retail chains are moving Black Friday shopping hours a day prior. She's launched a Facebook page called "Save Thanksgiving."

Retailes say they are simply responding to consumer demand for an earlier kickoff to the holiday shopping season. Those wishing to take the no-shopping-on-Thanksgiving promise can visit Facebook.com/SaveThanksgivingPledge.
