Benton Harbor Fire Is Clean Of All Penalties Assessed By State

Investigation, closed. The City of Benton Harbor has successfully abated all violations resulting from the recent Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspections. Deputy Director of Fire Services Jeremy Connell says responders and residents can feel safer moving forward.

The inspections were prompted because Fire Lt. Doug Bell was injured while fighting a fire in March. MIOSHA penalized the city $10,000 for safety and health violations. A settlement was reached. It required Benton Harbor to pay just $5,000 while making corrections to fire operations. MIOSHA has confirmed the city has satisfactorily abated all violations, and has no outstanding penalties.
