Berrien County Commissioners will hear from Road Commissioners and the public Thursday night in Berrien Township. It's the second and final public hearing on the turmoil at the Berrien County Road Commission, with the first held on October 10. County Commissioners have several options available to them, from leaving the Road Commission as-is all the way to a full takeover of the organization. About a year and a half ago, 13 non-union employees filed a grievance with the county alleging a hostile work environment under the former managing director and financial mismanagement. The federal government is investigating the allegations of misuse of highway dollars, while the report that came out of the hostile work environment claims led to several changes. In the past year, two managing directors have lost their jobs and three Road Commissioners were either fired or resigned. The County Board is likely to set a date for a special meeting and vote at the conclusion of Thursday night's meeting.
