Lighthouses To Be 2014 St. Joseph Public Art

Lighthouses will be the theme of the 2014 public art in St. Joseph. City Manager Richard Lewis says it will go well with the capital campaign to raise money to renovate the facilities on the North Pier, which the city now owns. He called it a "community effort" for the fundraiser, and the art project will reflect that.

Listen:

While the lighthouses will be identical to what's on the pier, artists will not be allowed to paint them to look as they do now. Lewis added in 2015, the city is working to expand the public art even further to involve the Krasl Art Center, Box Factory for the Arts and more with what he calls a "mini ArtPrize." He said by no means would the city be competing with the Grand Rapids event, but it would be based on what's made that summertime event so popular to our north.
