NRC Furloughs Employees But Inspectors Remain On Job At Cook, Palisades

The partial federal government shutdown is now affecting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Just 300 of the agency's 3,900 employees are currently on the job. Spokeswoman Prema Chandrathill says those still working include inspectors at all plants, including Palisades and Cook in southwest Michigan.

If any problems or emergencies arise and more staff is needed, they will be contacted and removed from furlough status.
