School "Count Day" Is Wednesday

Wednesday is the "count day" for public schools statewide. School districts are urging parents to be sure their kids are in class, as state funding levels are based on tomorrow's attendance. Each body in the seat is worth just over $7,200 to St. Joseph Public Schools and Superintendent Ann Cardon says it can be the difference between a deficit and a surplus for some schools.

Under the changes made in the 1990s with Proposal A, the state aid per district varies. Some get just over $7,000, while Cardon says others will receive over $12,000 per student from the state. St. Joseph Schools are putting out reminders on Facebook and other avenues to parents to make sure kids are in class.
