Expect some delays starting next week on the Amtrak Wolverine line between Chicago and Pontiac. Work will be done between Battle Creek and Jackson as Amtrak and MDOT prepare the entire route to be able to run 110 miles an hour, as the trains currently can along the line in southern Berrien County. The trains won't be able to go eastbound past Battle Creek, and passengers will be put on alternate transport modes - most likely buses - to go the rest of the way to Pontiac. This is the second phase of a three-phase project to upgrade the tracks. Amtrak says the construction work will be suspended over the weekends from September 30 to October 10, but delays and schedule changes are to be expected Monday through Thursday during the next week and a half.
