People called for jury duty in Berrien County are now being paid by check, with the money being mailed out the week after they serve. In the past, Berrien County has paid jurors in cash at the end of the day, which has led to long waits for the payment reports and longer delays at cashiering windows. Jury management was consolidated under the Berrien County Trial Court in July of last year, and the move to checks is the latest change. Jurors will still have the opportunity to donate some or all of the money they're paid for jury duty to the Generous Juror Fund, which supports programs for foster kids in the county. In 2012, the programs received nearly $2,800 from the fund.
