Grants to help government run more efficiently on the local level are being awarded to Oronoko Township and Cass County. The two municipalities are getting a piece of $6-million from the Competitive Grant Assistance Program. State Representatives Matt Lori and Dave Pagel made the announcement Tuesday. The Township will get nearly $29,000 to collaborate with Berrien Springs to develop a shared zoning and building ordinance. Cass County will get $84,000 to collaborate with St. Joseph County for services that ensure property taxes are assessed equally. 17-local units of government will get money from the program, the Michigan Department of Treasury received more than 40-applications for the competitive grants.
