Congressman Fred Upton is likely facing a primary challenge from the far right in 2014. Jim Bussler of Dowagiac is running as a Tea Party-backed Republican candidate for the 6th District seat. Upton has held the office since 1987 and held off a Tea Party challenge in 2012 from former state Representative Jack Hoogendyk. Bussler was a volunteer for Hoogendyk's failed campaign and is a registered nurse from Dowagiac. Other than his experience last year, he is a political newcomer. Bussler's platform is Upton has sold out to special interests and donors and is part of the "problem" in Washington. Last year, Upton survived both the primary challenge from Hoogendyk and beat Democrat Mike O'Brien to win his 14th term on Capitol Hill.
