Coloma Standoff Ends Peacefully

The Coloma Township Police Department arrested a 43 year old Coloma City man on various charges including domestic violence, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and assault with a deadly weapon after he held Officers at bay for 45 minutes outside his home.     Officers were sent to the 200 block of Garfield Street in the city of Coloma at approximately 11:00 PM Monday night after 911 dispatchers received a call from a female stating she had been assaulted by her husband. She indicated to dispatchers that he was armed with a 9mm handgun and that there were possibly more weapons inside.   Coloma Township Officers with the assistance of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police and the Pokagon Band Tribal Police were able to set up a perimeter around the home prior to making telephone contact with the subject inside.   Officers were able to establish a relationship with the man who then voluntarily gave up and surrendered. A search of the home resulted in the recovery of a 9mm semi-auto pistol used in the crime. The handgun was found to be registered to the subject.
