Destiny Coulson will remain behind bars for her 14 to 30 year prison term. She had asked to have her guilty plea to second degree murder withdrawn, but the motion was denied by Berrien County Trial Court Judge Gary Bruce, who ruled Lanny Fisher gave Coulson an effective defense. She shot 21-year-old David Quinn Jr. in the face at close range on January 24, 2012 after a night of drinking and fighting. Coulson was 16 at the time she killed her boyfriend, and was charged as an adult by former Berrien County Prosecutor Art Cotter due to the seriousness of the crime and the fact she had been living on her own as an adult since dropping out of school in 8th grade. Judge Bruce said Coulson was unable to prove her former lawyer made the mistakes she claimed. She is expected to appeal.
