Van Buren County Introduces Smart911 As New Public Safety Service

With a new informational profile service up and running, Van Buren County is on the cutting edge of emergency response. 911 Advisory Board Chairman Randy Peat announced Tuesday the offering of Smart911 to county residents. The national safety service allows residents to create a profile which will provide detailed information to dispatchers.

The system cost the county $20,000, but the service is free to residents. It's targeted at those who don't have a landline, but rather a cellular phone.

Van Buren County is the third county in Michigan to offer the service and the 300th jurisdiction in the nation to adopt Smart911.
