Jobs are being cut at the Palisades nuclear power plant. Parent company Entergy announced in its second quarter earnings report this week that it is eliminating 800 jobs nationwide. About 30 of those will be at the Covert Township nuclear plant. A third of the layoffs will be in Louisiana, and the job cuts are expected to save the company as much as $250 million by 2016. The job losses at Palisades represent about 4% of the current staff. Since September 2011, the plant has been shut down 9 times for various issues and is under increased scrutiny by the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Entergy reported earnings of 92-cents per share for the second quarter of 2013 this week.
