There Is Opposition To BH's Proposed City Income Tax

The idea of a City Income Tax is being talked about for the City of Benton Harbor. This would essentially cost people employed within city limits to pay a small fee to work there. The idea, spearheaded by Commissioner Trenton Bowens, is to raise extra revenue for the city. CEO of Benton Harbor based Thayer Products, Kay Varga Smith, is not on board.

Varga Smith is dead set against the proposal.

Thayer Products currently employs 15-people in Benton Harbor. The City Tax idea is still being discussed in town hall meetings. The next one is scheduled for Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. in City Hall.
