Brenda Layne has been with Mid-West Family Broadcasting and on the air on WSJM since November, 1981. Her community affairs talk show, “In the Spotlight,” has been airing weekday mornings since 1991. Full-time in the advertising sales department since 1993, Brenda is an Account Manager, and has earned the top designation of Master Sales Performer. She has also acquired her CRMM – Certified Radio Marketing Master – credentials from the Radio Advertising Bureau. That organization selected Brenda as a national finalist for the Salesperson of the Year award in 1998. As a volunteer, Brenda has served many charitable organizations since 1982, and currently sits on boards for the Lake Michigan College Alumni Association, the Berrien Community Foundation, the Berrien County Council for Children, 100 Women Strong, the YWCA of Berrien County, the Home, Garden and Leisure Show and The Service Connection. She became the youngest ever to earn the Margaret B. Upton Volunteer Leadership Award in 1994. Lake Michigan College named her as the recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Service award the same year and Brenda was honored as Woman of the Year at the YWCA’s annual Tribute to Women in 2000. She teaches marketing and advertising classes for the Small Business Development Center at Lake Michigan College and the Women’s Business Center at Cornerstone Alliance. You’ll find her frequently emceeing community functions and events, attending fundraisers and receptions and judging contests in Southwest Michigan. Brenda is a 1980 graduate of Eau Claire High School, earned her Journalism degree from Lake Michigan College in 1982, and completed the Community Leadership Academy in 1991. She lives in Benton Harbor with her son Hunter, age 8, and her 4 pound Chihuahua, Austin. Her pink flamingo collection –now numbering well over 700 items - is proudly displayed throughout her home and office at WSJM.
