Coming Home Coming Together Concert Coming Sunday

Honoring the legacy of a homegrown Grammy-nominated jazz pianist has become the traditional kickoff to summer in Benton Harbor. The 15th annual Gene Harris Coming Home Coming Together Concert will be held Sunday at Dwight Mitchell City Center Park. Mamie Yarbrough is on the committee that puts together the show every year along with Cornerstone Alliance and says they want as many people as possible to come and enjoy the music.

Harris' daughter, Niki Haris, will perform as per usual. She is a singer and actress who has sung with Madonna, Mick Jagger, Ray Charles, Whitney Houston and many more. The concert is free, but tables of 10 are also being sold for $250 each. Donations that come in year-round help to fund the event and keep it free. Gene Harris retired to Idaho, where the Gene Harris Jazz Festival is held every year in Boise in his honor. He was born in Benton Harbor in 1933 and passed away in 2000. Sunday's concert starts at 6:15, and the park opens for the public at 5 p.m.
