Charges are being sought against a pier jumper in St. Joseph. Sunday evening the Berrien County Sheriff's Department Marine Division responded to the Federal Channel between the south and north piers. A male subject attempted to swim across. Mid-way across the channel he became tired and needed help. Two other individuals jumped in to rescue him. Due to the powerful current all three swimmers then needed help. A nearby boater was able to help the initial jumper and one of the attempted rescuers, the third was rescued by the Marine Division. That person was taken to Lakeland Hospital complaining of head pain.
