St. Joseph City Budget In Place

The next fiscal year's budget is in place in St. Joseph, without many surprises. City Manager Frank Walsh says tax rates are staying stable, and the city is in sound shape financially with a surplus. One thing that's helping is a drop in healthcare costs from $2.3 million to $1.4 million dollars a year.

Revenues next year will exceed expenditures by $408,000. Walsh said the city is one of just a handful in the state where taxable property values are going up, and added the city's pension fund hit an all-time high last week of over $57.3 million. The budget was passed unamiously by the commission without any comment.
