State House Looking At School Cardiac Drills In Honor Of Wes Leonard

Fennville's Wes Leonard died young, but his legacy is living on. The multi-sports star died after a Fennville High School basketball game more than two years ago, and the Wes Leonard Heart Foundation has donated nearly 100 automated external defibrillators to schools around Michigan so far. Legislation is also pending in Lansing to hold regular cardiac emergency drills in schools. Representative Bob Genetski of Saugatuck says lawmakers have heard from Leonard's mother, Jocelyn, this week.

She testified Wednesday before the House Education Committee. The bills are expected to be up for a vote soon before the full House.
