2500 Hours of Training and Counting

Since becoming a Public Safety Department, officers in the City of St. Joseph have gone above and beyond when it comes to training. Between full and part-time fire fighters, also PSO's, the department has logged over 2,500 hours of document training since July 1. Deputy Director Jim Crow spoke to the city commission Monday.

Director Mark Clapp says the ongoing training is critical to the department's mission, and its success. A written test awaits a few police officers who are still going through the fire fighter training process. Clapp is confident that they will pass.

St. Joseph now has eight full-time firefighters, who will be replaced with PSO's as they retire. Saving the city roughly $750,000 a year.
