Congressman Fred Upton will hold a press conference Friday afternoon in Berrien Springs. Upton will be joined by local and state law enforcement officials as he talks about the ruling this week from the Food and Drug Administration to not allow generic forms of the painkiller OxyContin. Additionally, the FDA is ordering changes to the medicine to stop people from crushing it up and snorting it to get high. Upton says more than 16,000 people in the U.S. die each year from opiod overdoses, and he hopes the changes to OxyContin help bring the number down.
