A flood warning is set to take effect Friday evening through late Tuesday night for the St. Joseph River in Niles. The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana warns the river was at 8.5 feet this morning and rising, and they are forecasting minor flooding. The river is expected to go above the flood stage of 11 feet Friday evening and crest at nearly 12 feet around 8 p.m. Saturday. It is not expected to fall back below flood stage until around 2 a.m. Tuesday. The NWS says people living along River and Mairmont streets in Niles can expect flooded basements.
