The consensus among the higher-ups at the Berrien County Road Commission is their operations are improving, but there is work to do. Managing director Wayne Schoonover gave an update to a County Board of Commissioners committee this morning, saying when he came on board there was a four-month backlog in accounts receivable dating back to August.
County Commissioner Marletta Seats took issue with the road commission's budget, noting that while Schoonver says it was approved in September, three months before his hiring, the minutes from that meeting do not indicate the budget for this year was actually passed. Seats said she's asked several road commissioners about the budget.
Schoonover added the budget lacks the details he'd like to see, and changes will be made in coming years to how that's done.
